As the traditional New Years song sings, "Should all acquaintances be forgot...for auld lang syne". Its Scottish, roughly translated as "for the sake of old times".

America's rapid reaction airborne infantrymen serve in the 82nd Airborne Division. This Division has a rich history of battlefield accomplishments dating back to WWI. I was a 19 year old 82nd paratrooper when our country first sent me to war. This was in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm during the Persian Gulf War. After 9/11, Operation Iraqi Freedom began and I redeployed to Iraq serving in other units.

This week our younger 82nd Airborne brothers quickly deployed yet again. This news has caused me to think about my time in our Army.

I'd like to share this small after dinner watercolor study I did last year with our military family out there. We've sacrificed a lot for our country and we'll always be bonded through our service experiences.

Title: MC-1523, 5x7 watercolor on cotton paper, Military Collection. Featuring a US Army M35A2, 2 1/2 ton (Deuce and a Half) with a mounted .50 caliber machine gun in Operation Desert Storm.
